What is a self bunded fuel tank?
A self bunded fuel tank is a double-walled storage tank — a tank within a tank. The inner tank stores the fuel; the outer wall acts as secondary containment, holding at least 110% of the inner tank's capacity in the event of a leak or spill. This design means no separate external bund or concrete containment works are required, significantly simplifying installation and reducing cost.
Are self bunded tanks compliant with AS 1940?
Yes. A-FLO's self bunded fuel tanks are designed and specified to comply with AS 1940:2017 — the Australian Standard for the Storage and Handling of Flammable and Combustible Liquids. The built-in 110% secondary containment meets the bunding requirement of the standard. All tanks come with documentation confirming AS 1940 compliance for your records.

How much diesel am I allowed to store on site?
There is no single national storage limit. Allowable volumes are governed by state and territory dangerous goods legislation, and thresholds that trigger notification or licensing requirements vary by jurisdiction. Most states require some form of notification above approximately 1,000L. A-FLO can assist with determining the specific requirements for your site, volume, and state before you order.
Can I get a self bunded tank with a pump already fitted?
Yes — most A-FLO self bunded tanks are available as configured packages with pump kits, hose reels, filtration, meters, and fuel management systems included. Options include 240V standard pumps, hi-flow 1.5HP sub pumps, 12V and 24V DC pump kits for remote sites, and BSmart, Fluidtrack, or Fluidlink AFM fuel management systems.
