The crisis explained
What's Happening Right Now
Australia is facing one of the most serious fuel supply challenges in its history. A month-long disruption to oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz has sent shockwaves through the global energy market — and Australia, as one of the world's most import-dependent nations for diesel and jet fuel, is feeling the pressure more acutely than almost any other country.
According to recent ABC reporting, Australia has been forced to source fuel from increasingly unconventional routes. Countries that were previously reliable suppliers — including Taiwan, Brunei and India — have effectively stopped or dramatically reduced exports, hoarding their refined product because they can no longer source sufficient crude from the Middle East.
"Australia is — in terms of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel — one of the most import-dependent countries, if not the most import-dependent country in the world. I think it looks pretty bad."
James Noel-Beswick, Head of Commodities, Sparta Energy Analytics
The uncomfortable reality is that Australia's fuel supply largely goes to the highest bidder. As global competition for available diesel intensifies, tankers bound for Australia can be diverted mid-journey to higher-paying markets. Analysts warn that things will get worse before they get better, with months likely needed before supply chains stabilise.
Diesel vs petrol
Diesel Is the Product Under the Most Pressure
Not all fuels are equally affected. The type of crude oil that flows through the Middle East produces a particularly high yield of diesel — meaning the Hormuz disruption hits diesel supply harder than almost any other refined product. Analysts have been clear that while petrol supply remains more manageable, diesel and jet fuel are facing the most severe strain.
For the vast majority of A-FLO's customers — fleet operators, farmers, miners and contractors — diesel is the lifeblood of operations. Businesses that move now to build on-site fuel storage capacity will be better positioned than those that wait until supply tightens further or prices climb higher.
On-site storage
A-FLO's Diesel Tank Solutions — Built for Australian Conditions
A-FLO designs and engineers its diesel storage solutions in-house, specifically for the demands of the Australian environment. The full range covers compact on-site units through to large-scale bulk storage, all built to withstand extreme weather conditions while meeting compliance standards.
Self Bunded Diesel Tanks
Integrated secondary containment meets environmental compliance without a separate bunded compound. Fuelcube and Fuelbox ranges for workshops, depots and remote sites.
Fueltainer Diesel Tanks
Containerised, secure and straightforward to relocate as operational needs change. Diesel/AdBlue Combo configuration available for single-unit dual storage.
Farm Refueller & Farmbox
Designed with agricultural operations in mind — practical and durable for rural Australian conditions where trips to town for fuel represent real lost productivity.
GENCUBE Generator Cubes
Addresses the specific requirements of generator-dependent operations, providing reliable on-site fuel supply for standby and continuous power generation.
Poly Refueller Tanks
Available in both single skin and self bunded configurations — flexible solutions depending on site requirements and compliance needs.
Fueltrans Diesel Trailers
Self bunded and single skin configurations. Mobile fuel storage that travels with your operation — equipment refuelled on the spot, wherever you are.
AdBlue storage
Don't Overlook AdBlue
Modern diesel vehicles require AdBlue to meet emissions standards, and AdBlue supply has faced its own disruptions in recent years. Running out of AdBlue can take a compliant vehicle off the road just as effectively as running out of diesel itself.
A-FLO's Bluequip AdBlue tank range covers a wide spectrum of operational needs — from BlueMaster Self Bunded round tanks for high-volume fleet applications, to containerised Slimline and XSlimline tanks for sites where space is at a premium. Single skin options including the Round Eco Fleet and Slimline Eco Fleet round out the range for lower-volume requirements.
Bluequip AdBlue Range
- BlueMaster Self Bunded Round Pro Fleet Tank — high-volume fleet and depot
- BlueMaster Self Bunded Round Retail Forecourt Tank
- Containerised Self Bunded Slimline Tank — space-efficient footprint
- Containerised Self Bunded XSlimline Tank
- Single Skin AdBlue Round Eco Fleet — lower-volume requirements
- Single Skin AdBlue Slimline Eco Fleet
Fuel management
Know Exactly Where Your Fuel Is Going
Storing more fuel on-site solves the availability problem — but managing it well requires visibility over how it's being used. Fuel theft, inefficient dispensing and unaccounted usage become significantly more costly as fuel prices rise. A-FLO's fuel management and monitoring suite gives operators the data to act.
Fuel Management Systems
FLUIDTRACK and FLUIDLINK provide real-time fuel management with monitoring and accountability across your entire fleet or site. PIUSI Bsmart and PIUSI 3000 Supreme deliver proven European engineering for high-volume dispensing environments. The Compac Comfill system suits operations requiring automated, unattended fuelling with full transaction recording.
Tank Level Monitoring
The LEVELTRACK ATG, FLUIDLEV ATG and PIUSI Bsmart Watchdog systems provide continuous visibility over stock levels, with high level alarms and indicators to prevent overfills and compliance incidents. Oil monitoring systems extend this visibility to lubricant storage as well.
Oil & lubricants
Oil and Lubricant Storage — Completing the Picture
Fuel security is only part of the operational resilience equation. A-FLO's oil systems range — including the Lubeskid, LubeStore, BUNDBOX and a full range of new and waste oil tanks — ensures that lubricant supply is managed with the same discipline as diesel. For workshop environments, unitanks and workshop bench tanks integrate storage and dispensing into an organised, compliant workspace.
